WatermarkMyID Privacy Policy
Effective date: 8 October 2026
This policy explains how the WatermarkMyID Android app (com.clockworkbots.watermarkmyid) handles
your information. The app is made by ClockworkBots
(https://clockworkbots.com). WatermarkMyID is an independent app; it isn't
connected to, or approved by, any government, identity authority or bank.
The short version
- The app never uploads your documents; they're processed only on your phone.
- The app hands a watermarked copy to another app only when you tap Share, and only to the app you pick. Copies you save to the Gallery can be backed up by your Gallery or backup app.
- There are no accounts, and the app contains no analytics or crash-reporting tools.
- The app has no permission to use the internet.
What the app does
You choose photos of an ID card, passport or other document, and the app adds a watermark with your text (for example, who the copy is for). You then share the watermarked copy or save it to your Gallery.
Opening, editing, watermarking and saving all happen on your phone. The app doesn't upload your photos, the text you type or the copies it makes, and we (ClockworkBots) never receive your documents. A copy goes only where you share or save it. The app never changes, moves or deletes your original photos.
How photos get into the app
You choose photos with Android's system photo picker. The app gets access only to the photos you select; it can't browse your Gallery and doesn't ask for permission to read your photos or files. On phones without the photo picker, Android shows its own file picker instead, which works the same way.
When a copy leaves your phone: sharing
When you tap Share, the app prepares the watermarked copies and opens Android's share sheet. You choose the app that receives them, for example a messaging or email app. That app gets access to those copies only.
From then on, the receiving app's own privacy policy and terms apply to the copies you sent. We can't see, control or delete what it does with them.
Saving to your Gallery
When you tap Save, the app saves the watermarked copies in your phone's Pictures folder, in an album named "WatermarkMyID". They stay there until you delete them.
Like any photo in your Gallery, these copies can be seen by your Gallery app and by other apps you've allowed to access your photos. A Gallery or backup app (for example, a cloud photo backup you've turned on) may copy them off your phone. That copy is handled by that app or service under its own policy.
Temporary copies
To share or save, the app first writes the watermarked copies to its private temporary storage (the app cache), which other apps can't open. The only exception is the app you share with, which can read the copies you sent it.
The app deletes these temporary copies when you close the Done screen (with Back or New document). Copies left behind, for example because the app was closed before you left that screen, are deleted the next time you open the app.
Photo metadata and the date option
Photos from a phone camera often carry hidden details, such as where the photo was taken (GPS location), the phone model and the camera settings.
The watermarked copies are new JPEG images made from the pixels of your photos. No metadata from the original (EXIF, GPS location, XMP or thumbnail) is carried over, except the date if you choose to keep it. A photo with a wide colour range may get a standard colour profile so its colours display correctly.
Keep date taken is off by default. If you turn it on, the copy keeps only the date and time the original photo was taken, plus its time-zone offset if the original recorded one. Nothing else is copied.
The copies get neutral file names, such as Document_20261007_143005_1.jpg: the date and time the
copy was made and a page number. They never include your watermark text, the recipient or the original file
name.
Permissions
- Storage (write), only on Android 7, 8 and 9. These Android versions need it to save a photo to the Gallery. The app asks only when you tap Save. If you say no, you can still share. Android 10 and later save without any permission.
- The app doesn't ask for permission to read your photos or files, or to use the camera, location, contacts, microphone or internet.
- Android may also list a technical permission ending in
DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION. It comes from an Android support library, lets the app talk only to itself, and gives no access to your data.
What the app doesn't do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No analytics, tracking or crash-reporting tools, and no remote configuration.
- No internet access: the app has no internet permission and no code that connects to the internet.
- The current version doesn't save your watermark text, a list of recipients or a history of the documents you watermarked.
Separately from the app, if you've allowed your phone to share usage and diagnostics data with Google, Google Play may give us statistics about crashes and app performance. That's controlled by your phone's settings, not by the app.
Backup and screenshots
- Backup is turned off. The app opts out of Android backup and of device-to-device transfer, so nothing from the app's private storage is copied to a backup. Photos you save to the Gallery are outside the app's storage (see Saving to your Gallery).
- Screenshots are blocked. In the version published on Google Play, the app blocks screenshots and screen recordings of its screens, and the recent apps screen doesn't show its content.
Children
WatermarkMyID is meant for people aged 18 and over. It isn't designed for or directed at children.
How long data is kept
- Temporary copies: until you close the Done screen, or at the latest until the app next starts.
- Copies saved to the Gallery: until you delete them.
- With us: none of your documents or copies. The app doesn't send them to us, so we have none to keep or delete.
Your choices
- Choose which photos the app can access, each time, in the photo picker.
- Decide whether to share, which app receives the copies, and whether to save them to the Gallery.
- Turn Keep date taken on or off before each share or save.
- On Android 7–9, refuse the storage permission and still share.
- Delete saved copies from your Gallery at any time.
- Uninstall the app to remove everything it keeps on your phone, including any temporary copies. Copies you saved to the Gallery stay until you delete them.
Changes to this policy
When the app changes how it handles information (for example, when ads are added), we'll update this policy at https://watermarkmyid.clockworkbots.com/privacy and change the effective date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
